KAMPALA, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Ugandan police on Wednesday said it has arrested a Norwegian female drug trafficker with 3.76 kilograms of narcotic drugs worth millions of U.S. dollars, a police spokesperson said here.

Patrick Onyango, Uganda's deputy police spokesperson, told Xinhua that the aviation police on Tuesday arrested Elizabeth Arntzen Karin, 53, with 3.76 kg of narcotic drugs believed to be heroin at the baggage screening point at Entebbe International Airport, 40 kilometers, south of the capital Kampala.

Onyango said the female drug trafficker was intending to travel to Brussels, Belgium aboard a Brussels Airlines Flight, SN 3169.

"Our aviation police became suspicious and intercepted her. On searching, three polythene bags wrapped with a cello-tape were recovered with suspected heroine weighing 3.76 kilograms," said Onyango.

"We have submitted the drugs to the government analytical laboratory for analysis. She has been charged with unlawful possession of narcotic drugs contrary to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act 2016," he said.

Ugandan aviation police has in the past arrested several foreign nationals trying to smuggle narcotic drugs through Entebbe International Airport.

According to local media, dozens of drug traffickers have been arrested over a period of 14 years, but they have never appeared in court.

The East African country is seen as a transit point for drugs traffickers from South America and Southeast Asia.
