MOMBASA, Kenya, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Two Kenya Defense Force (KDF) pilots were on Wednesday injured after their military aircraft crashed in southern county of Taita-Taveta.

Taita-Taveta County divisional police commander Francis Mwangi said the two officers were on a training mission when their Kenya Air-force light aircraft developed mechanical problem and crashed.

Mwangi said the two sustained injuries and were transferred to Voi referral hospital for treatment.

"It is not immediately clear what caused the accident but reports indicate that the engine developed mechanical problem and it crashed after hitting a post," said Mwangi.

One wing of the aircraft was damaged. Mwangi said the pilots where flying the aircraft registered KAF 720 from Mombasa to Nairobi when the accident occurred.

A team of investigators from the military have joined local detectives in conducting the investigation to establish the cause of the accident.

Mwangi said the scene of the accident has been sealed off to enable the investigators to conduct a thorough probe.
