LUANDA, April 5 (Xinhua) -- The Angolan Government is moving ahead with the second phase of the airspace modernization program in order to comply with international standards, with an authorized investment of more than 63.36 million U.S. dollars.

Local media reported on Thursday that a presidential order issued on April 2 authorizes a contract to supply equipment and services, to be signed between the Angolan Ministry of Transport and the Canadian company Intelcan Techonosystems, with a view to implementing the second phase of the Civil Airspace Management and Control Program (PGCEAC).

"It is aimed to modernize the airspace, both in terms of systems and equipment and in terms of compliance with all standards and recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization for the region," reads the referred order, signed by the Angolan President, Joao Lourenco.

This authorization comes just after the Angolan Transport Minister, Augusto Tomás, visited the premises of the Intelcan consortium in Ottawa in late February to learn about the air navigation equipment and systems produced there.

That ministry explained that Augusto Tomás' move to Canada was taking place at a time when the transport sector was increasingly committed to strengthening the organization of the national airport system, technical and human resources, compliance with regulatory recommendations, market needs and best international practices.

Approved in 2013 by the Government and with a development plan at the time set for four years, the PGCEAC intends to strengthen the level of airport and air navigation support services.
