TRIPOLI, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Preparations for the UN-proposed national conference of Libya have started in the western city of Zuwara and the eastern city of Benghazi.
"The consultative meetings for the national conference took place in the cities of Zuwara and Benghazi, which will continue until July, ensuring broad and effective participation of all Libyans to determine the future of their country, in order to reach a permanent solution to the crisis," a statement by the conference's preparatory committee said on Thursday.
The Libyan national conference is part of an action plan proposed by the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, in September 2017 to end the political division in Libya.
The action plan also includes holding presidential and parliamentary elections before the end of 2018.
