RABAT, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Morocco's trade deficit increased by 21.6 percent by the end of February compared with the previous year, reaching 2.7 billion U.S. dollars, Morocco's foreign exchange regulator said on Thursday.

The rise in the deficit was driven by a hike in imports by 13.5 percent to nearly 8.2 billion U.S. dollars from 7.2 billion dollars in February 2017, according to official statistics.

Total exports have risen by 11 percent year on year, but stood at only 6.2 billion dollars, pushed by the rise of 15 percent in the automotive industry, and 2.9 percent in agriculture exports, the same source said.
