GABORONE, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Botswana's Ministry of Transport and Communications will host the Regional Information Society Technologies in Africa conference (IST-Africa 2018) from May 9 to 11 in Gaborone, capital of Botswana, said a press released by the Ministry.

IST-Africa 2018 is the 13th in a series of annual technology research and innovation conferences hosted by African governments.

The 3-day conference is organized by International Information Management Corporation (IIMC) and is supported by the European Commission and African Union Commission.

The conference will bring together over 300 senior representatives from around the world to identify opportunities for research and innovation collaboration within Africa and between Europe and Africa under Horizon 2020, which is the biggest EU Research and Innovation program with nearly 80 billion euros of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020), said the press released by the Ministry.

It promises breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking ideas from the lab to the market.

IST-Africa and IST-Africa Week 2018 directly supports innovation, Science and Technology aspects of the Africa-EU Strategic Partnership and the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA-2024).

The conference will provide a world class international forum to showcase existing Research, Innovation and ICT activities and capacity in Botswana, the rest of Africa and Europe.

It also aims to bridge the digital divide by sharing knowledge, experience, lessons learnt and good practices.
