ADDIS ABABA, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Scores of flights in and out of the Ethiopia Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, one of Africa's busiest airports, have been suspended on Tuesday after air traffic controllers went on strike.

Speaking to state broadcaster, Ethiopian Television (ETV), Colonel Wossenyeleh Hunegnaw, Director General of Ethiopia Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA), said the strike happened with a pretext to protest suspension of holiday bonus payment to air traffic controllers and allegations of corruption within ECAA.

He further said the authority will take measures against striking staff and that the delay in flights will resume shortly.

Industrial strikes are rare in Ethiopia, one of Africa's fast-growing economy, which also has the continent's largest successful state air carrier Ethiopian Airlines.
