ADDIS ABABA, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The Ethiopian House of People's Representatives announced Wednesday that it will elect new house speaker and approve the appointments of new cabinet members.

According to the announcement, the Ethiopian parliament's lower house in its Thursday's session will evaluate and endorse the new cabinet members as per the recommendation made by Ethiopia's new Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed.

Abiy Ahmed, who was unanimously endorsed by the Ethiopian House of People's Representatives (HoPR) as Ethiopia's Prime Minister earlier this month, is expected to reshuffle the East African country's cabinet members, majority of whom were appointed by the HoPR as per the recommendation of former prime minister Hailemariam Desalegn in November 2016.

The 2016 cabinet members reshuffle was made as a response to persistent public dissatisfaction, which in some occasions turned violent in some parts of the country.

Even though protests decreased since then, renewed mass demonstrations triggered by ethnic clashes and anti-government rallies had forced Desalegn to resign from the premiership, eventually succeeded by Abiy Ahmed as Chairman of the ruling coalition, the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front.

The Ethiopian House of People's Representatives has also announced on Wednesday that the session on Thursday will also appoint new house speaker.

House Speaker, Abadula Gemeda, had submitted resignation letter in October last year.
