ABUJA, April 23 (Xinhua) -- A large training camp, used for providing instructional training of terror group Boko Haram's foot soldiers, has been destroyed by Nigerian troops in the northeastern state of Borno, the Army said on Monday.

The troops killed one Boko Haram fighter and rescued one person held captive while clearing the training facility at Benisheikh area of Borno on Sunday, according to Onyema Nwachukwu, a military spokesman.

Nwachukwu said the troops acted on intelligence and discovered some instructional training materials during the clearance operation at the camp.

Some Boko Haram fighters had engaged troops in a gunfight during the operation, he added.

Nigeria has made considerable gains against the terror group, dislodging its fighters from the Sambisa Forest, the group's largest training camp in the country, last year.

Boko Haram has been blamed for the death of more than 20,000 people and displacement of 2.3 million others in Nigeria since 2009.
