China becomes guest of honor at Algiers Int'l Fair

ALGIERS, May 2 (Xinhua) -- China is chosen as the guest of honor at the 51st Algiers International Fair (FIA) due on May 8-13, Algerian Trade Minister Said Djellab said Wednesday.

China is the top economic and trade partner of Algeria, Djellab told a press conference held jointly with Chinese Ambassador to Algeria Yang Guangyu.

Djellab added that this fair would provide opportunities for building partnerships between local and foreign companies in creating joint ventures in Algeria.

For his part, Yang noted that China, which has been participating in the FIA since its first edition in 1967, is ready to sustain its presence and contribute to the diversification of the Algerian economy.

China will be represented in the FIA 2018 by 58 companies from different sectors, including food processing, energy, petrochemicals, electronics, manufacture, mechanics, iron and steel, and construction.

Under the them of "Trade at the service of national production," the FIA 2018 will feature 704 companies, including 296 foreign exhibitors from 25 countries.

Last year's fair, attended by 791 exhibitors, attracted about 400,000 visitors.
