ZAGREB, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Two refugee children were injured Wednesday night in Croatia's Zadar county when police fired at a vehicle carrying illegal migrants that had crossed the Croatian-Bosnian border, local police announced Thursday.
During the police operation, the driver jumped off the vehicle and is still on the run.
The police found 29 migrants in the van. Two 12-year-old children were injured from gunshots and transferred to a local hospital. Croatian N1 television reported on Thursday that their conditions are stable.
Seven more people were injured in the van, probably because of dangerous driving. Refugees found in the van are from Iraq and Afghanistan, Croatian police reported.
