KHARTOUM, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Qatar on Sunday reiterated support for resumption of negotiations between Sudan government and armed groups in Sudan's Darfur region based on Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD).

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Sunday received in Khartoum Special Envoy of Qatar's Minister of Foreign Affairs Mutlaq Al Qahtani.

"The meeting discussed courses of the negotiations and how to attract other groups to the negotiation table on bases of the DDPD," said Al Qahtani in a statement.

He further reiterated Doha's support for the resumption of talks between Khartoum and the rebel groups, saying "our main goal is to achieve peace and complete the peace process."

Sudanese government's official in charge of the Darfur file Amin Hassan Omar reiterated Khartoum's readiness to resume the Darfur peace talks.

He said a meeting would soon be held with the African Union envoy with the aim to complete the peace process and include the armed groups in the DDPD.

Three major armed groups in Darfur, including the Justice and Equality Movement, the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM)/Minni Minnawi faction and and the SLM/Abdul-Wahid Mohamed Nur faction, have refused to join the DDPD.

Doha has been mediating between Khartoum and the Darfur armed groups since 2003. The DDPD was signed in Doha, Qatar in 2011.
