CAIRO, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and King Abdullah II of Jordan on Monday discussed in a phone conversation the bilateral ties and regional situation.

The two leaders "discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and the latest developments in the region," Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.

They reviewed the current developments, particularly in the Palestinian issue, Rady said.

The spokesman added that the two leaders asserted the keenness to promote the bilateral historical ties and continue coordination and consultation on various issues of mutual interest.

King of Jordan paid an one-day official visit to Cairo on May 23, when he discussed with Sisi mainly the Palestinian cause, following the widespread Israeli-Palestinian clashes in the wake of the U.S. relocation of its embassy in Israel to the disputed holy city of Jerusalem.

During the May summit, the two leaders stressed that the absence of prospect for finding a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause will lead to further instability in the region.

Egypt and Jordan have been working jointly with other international players to seek a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The Palestinians seek to establish an independent state based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in light of the UN-proposed two-state solution.
