TRIPOLI, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) on Saturday called on the United Nations Security Council to expand its sanctions list in the country to include more oil smugglers.

In a statement, the oil company applauded a Security Council resolution imposing sanctions on six individuals mostly implicated in migrant trafficking and smuggling in Libya.

National Oil Corporation Chairman Mustafa Sanalla called for the list "to be extended further to capture all criminal gangs, including petroleum products smugglers, and those who attempt to steal crude oil to profit from human misery and destabilize Libyan society."

Already on the list according to the statement "is known fuel smuggler Mohamed Kashlaf, an individual who has previously defrauded the Libyan state through various illicit acts, including the occupation of the Zawiya refinery and other initiatives related to fuel smuggling since 2011."

Praising the UN resolution as "an important precedent in combating these crimes," NOC Chairman Sanalla said, "We call for the sanctions list to immediately expand and include fuel smugglers across our country. This measure will help prosperity and peace to return to Libya."
