LUSAKA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Zambia says it was open to foreign direct investment to raise finances for recapitalization of the railway sector, state-run railway firm said on Thursday.
Lubinda Linyama, Chairman of Zambia Railways Limited said private partnership was important in order to enhance strategic activities and grow business for the rail sector in Zambia.
The official, in remarks delivered at the 2018 Africa Rail Conference in South Africa, said the economic growth and development of the sector was largely dependent on infrastructure which could be done through foreign direct investment, according to a statement released by the Zambia embassy in South Africa.
Through private partnership, government intends to develop eight main greenfield railway projects that will connect the country to all regional trade corridors.
He further said attending the conference was beneficial to Zambia as it provided a platform to engage investors and showcase the investment opportunities existing in the country's railway sector.
