SOFIA, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, came last in 109 EU cities on inhabitants' satisfaction with sports facilities, a latest Eurostat survey has showed.
Some 62 percent of Sofia citizens responded that the city's sports facilities, such as sport fields and indoor sport halls, were rather unsatisfactory or not at all satisfactory. Only 8 percent of the respondents said they were satisfied, according to the survey.
The reasons for the state of sports facilities were various, the survey said. One of the cited was that the city was the most dynamically developing capital in Europe, with a large increase in population and the destruction of many sports areas due to building construction in the past years.
The last sports facility built in Sofia was the Arena Armeec Sports Hall with a capacity of up to 15,000 people and catering to over 30 types of sports, but it opened in 2011, according to the survey.
