Ethiopian Airlines boosts flight network by opening 10 destinations in 6 months

ADDIS ABABA, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia's national flag carrier Ethiopian Airlines (ET) said on Saturday it has been able to launch 10 destinations in the last six months, bringing its global flight network to 112.

Speaking to Xinhua, Busera Awol, Chief Commercial Officer at ET, said by opening 10 destinations in such short period of time it has kept the airlines in a fast and profitable growth trajectory.

Some of the 10 destinations ET opened in the last six months include, Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina, the mineral rich city of Kisangani in Democratic Republic of Congo and the U.S.'s third largest city Chicago.

"Earlier this month ET celebrated the arrival of its 100th aircraft, it plans to add 19 more aircraft in the next 10 months as it strives to keep its status as Africa's most successful airlines," said Awol.

He further said in a continuation of ET's rapid expansion of global flight network, the airlines will add the Spanish city Barcelona, the capital of Indonesia Jakarta, Turkey's largest city Istanbul, Russia's capital city Moscow and the southern Chinese city Shenzhen".

Ethiopian Airlines currently has daily passenger flights to Guangzhou and Beijing and three times a week passenger flights to Chengdu as well as daily passenger and cargo flights to Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Ethiopian Airlines became the first African carrier and the fourth in the world to fly to China back in 1973.
