ALGIERS, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Algerian police have arrested two suspects for killing a Chinese citizen earlier this month, said the Chinese Embassy in Algeria on Tuesday.

On June 10, an employee of a Chinese company was robbed and killed by several knife-wielding criminals in the region of Dalbeda in the Algerian capital Algiers.

Abdel Ghani Hamel, Algeria's director general of National Security, met Chinese Ambassador to Algeria Yang Guangyu on Monday to report on the progress of the case, the embassy said in a statement.

Hamel said that two main offenders in the case had been arrested and the third suspect would be arrested soon, it said.

He stressed that the Algerian police attached great importance to the case and sent additional police forces to search for the murderers after the incident.

Hamel also pledged to take further measures to ensure personal and property safety of the Chinese citizens in Algeria.

For his part, Yang lauded the police for their capability and efficiency in handling the case, voicing hope that the Algerian police will continue to work to seize the fugitive and take effective measures to protect the Chinese citizens.

After the fatal robbery, officials from the Chinese embassy had met with Algerian police and Foreign Ministry officials to express serious concerns about the murder case and the Chinese citizens' safety.
