ADDIS ABABA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The Ethiopia Federal Police Commission said Sunday it had arrested 30 people in connection with a bomb attack on Saturday in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa.

The bomb attack, which hit a mass rally in support of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, left two people dead and 156 injured, according to figures given by Ethiopia Ministry of Health.

Zeynu Jemal, Ethiopia Federal Police Commissioner, said the 30 individuals are suspected of involvement in the attack and that police is conducting investigation to identify the masterminds of the attack, reported state media Ethiopia Broadcasting Corporation (EBC).

He further said nine senior police officials including Girma Kassa, Addis Ababa Police Deputy Commissioner, have been arrested for failing to prevent the bomb attack.

The mass rally, which was held in Addis Ababa and other major cities across the East African country, was organized to give credit to the various activities taken for close to three months by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's administration.

Ahmed, who took the prime minister position in April, has made various decisions that mainly aimed to bring about peace and unity among ethnic groups in the country.
