ALGIERS, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Algeria on Monday strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Saturday in Addis Ababa.
"Algeria strongly condemns the criminal grenade attack that targeted Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on last Saturday," Algerian Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Abdelaziz Benali Cherif said in a press statement.
He further reiterated Algeria's rejection of "such heinous and criminal acts," while expressing solidarity with the Ethiopian people and government.
"Algeria hopes that Ethiopia would be able to continue development efforts in a calm and peaceful manner," the spokesperson said.
The Saturday bombing targeted a crowd of Ahmed's supporters in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, killing two people and injuring more than 150 others, local media reported.
The blast occurred when an unknown person threw a grenade on the stage of a massive rally, which the Ethiopian prime minister attended.
