HARARE, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Two injured people from the explosion that occurred at an election rally in Bulawayo on Saturday have died, the minister of state for Bulawayo Angeline Masuku said Monday.

The two succumbed to injuries sustained in the blast that occurred shortly after President Emmerson Mnangagwa had finished addressing the rally.

Mnangangwa escaped unhurt although vice president Kembo Mohadi and 48 others were injured.

Mnangagwa has since described the attack as a "cowardly act" by his usual enemies and has vowed that general elections scheduled for July 30 will go ahead as planned.

He has survived numerous attempts on his life. On Monday, he conducted his official duties as usual and opened a women's bank in the country, the first of its kind in southern Africa.

Masuku confirmed the deaths to media and appealed to people in Bulawayo to remain calm and peaceful.

Meanwhile, the White City Stadium where the blast occurred remains closed as police investigations continue. Police are offering a substantial reward to anyone with information that may help in the probe.

The attempted assassination of President Mnangagwa has been widely condemned by people in and outside Zimbabwe.
