BUCHAREST, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Romania's top council decided on Wednesday to send 3,030 troops, police officers and civilians troops for missions abroad in 2019, 305 more than that of the current year.
"The Romanian Army will participate with a staff of 2,098 troops and civilians in missions and operations overseas, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will participate with 932 troops and police officers," the Presidential Administration announced a decision made by the country's Supreme Council for National Defense (CSAT).
The CSAT, which includes the president, the prime minister, the ministers of defense and foreign affairs, and intelligence chiefs, is Romania's top executive body able to decide on security and defense issues.
These forces are available for missions led by NATO, the European Union, the United Nations and the OSCE, as a customary practice of the country since 2002 when it began to send troops abroad.
Over the years, 29 Romanian soldiers lost their lives in their missions overseas, while more than 185 were injured, according to the official data recently released by the Ministry of National Defense.
