BERLIN, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Mainz have completed the transfer of Jean Philippe Mateta from French outfit Oympique Lyon, the Bundesliga club confirmed in an official statement on Thursday.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder agreed to terms on a four-year deal with Mainz.
"We are very pleased to announce that we have signed with Jean Philippe Mateta a top talent from Olympique Lyon. He has proved in France's second division that he can score regularly. Jean Philippe opted for us despite numerous other offers," Mainz' sporting director Rouven Schroeder said.
Mateta played recently on loan at second division outfit Le Havre AC where he scored 17 goals in 35 appearances.
"The talks I had with those responsible convinced me of Mainz. Besides, the Bundesliga is a top league, the stadiums are full and the atmosphere is fantastic. I am really looking forward to play for Mainz," Mateta said.
Mainz completed the Bundesliga season 2017-2018 on the 14th place of the standings.
