ADDIS ABABA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has expressed his concern regarding the recent stoppage of oil production and exports in Libya.

"The Chairperson of the Commission would like to reaffirm the AU's profound conviction that the natural resources of Libya belong to all Libyan people," the pan-African block, AU, indicated in a statement issued late on Sunday.

The Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) of the UN-backed unity government on Sunday indicated that the recent stoppage of oil production and exports in oil crescent region by the eastern-based army causes daily losses of 67.4 million U.S. dollars.

"The cessation of crude exports from oil terminals currently blockaded by Libyan National Army (LNA), potentially requiring the declaration of force majeure, will have significant short and long term consequences for NOC affiliate companies, the national economy and the Libyan people," NOC said in a statement on Sunday.

Faki called upon all Libyan stakeholders "to avoid any action that may further complicate the search of a speedy resolution to the crisis in Libya which will put an end to the long suffering of the Libyan people," the statement read.

He also urged all armed factions in the North African country to "refrain from any attempt to disrupt oil installations, production and exports that may jeopardize the much-needed resources for the daily subsistence of the people and the rebuilding of Libya."

The chairperson looks forward to the organization of an inclusive dialogue to promote reconciliation and address peacefully all issues at hand, including the protection of national resources in order to promote a durable solution to the situation in Libya.
