CAIRO, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian army and police killed three militants and arrested 59 others over the past few days in the restive North Sinai Province, the Egyptian military said on Tuesday.

The military also "detected and detonated 10 explosive devices" planted in the operation areas, said the army spokesman Tamer al-Refai in a statement.

The raids are part of the country's comprehensive "Sinai 2018" anti-terror campaign which has killed about 321 militants and more than 30 soldiers since its launch in February.

The spokesman said a soldier was injured in the clashes with militants, while an explosion targeting the forces killed two civilians.

The "Sinai 2018" operation has so far destroyed hundreds of terrorist hideouts and ruined and seized large amounts of weapons, explosives and ammunition, in addition to numerous vehicles and motorbikes belonging to the terrorists.

Egypt has been fighting a wave of terrorism that killed hundreds of policemen and soldiers, as well as civilians, since the military removed former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests against his one-year rule and his currently outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.

A Sinai-based group loyal to the regional Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility for most of the terrorist attacks in Egypt over the past few years.

Meanwhile, security forces killed hundreds of terrorists and arrested thousands of suspects during the country's anti-terror war declared by newly re-elected President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, the army chief then, following Morsi's ouster.
