LJUBLJANA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- A fire broke out on Tuesday morning in Grand Hotel Union in the centre of Ljubljana and was extinguished in the afternoon without causing any casualties.

Some 100 persons have been evacuated from the four-star hotel.

The fire broke out in the wooden loft around nine o'clock on Tuesday morning, spreading quickly to the roof, the Slovenian Press Agency STA reported quoting the Ljubljana police.

However, the fire was put out in the afternoon by 75 firefighters with 14 fire engines, said the police, although they had a hard work because the building was too high to use the ladder.

The cause of the fire is unclear and is under investigation, while the part of the hotel affected by the fire is closed, according to the STA.
