STOCKHOLM, July 3 (Xinhua) --- One person died and another was seriously wounded in a shooting that took place in broad daylight in Malmo, southern Sweden on Tuesday.

According to police spokesperson Ewa-Gun Westford, the incident is related to previous shootings in the area, but the spokesperson told Swedish Television on Tuesday that "each case is investigated separately" without giving more details.

"It is a very unfortunate development within this group of young men who feel offended by certain things and then that leads to shootings such as this one," Westford said, referring to retribution shootings between members of rivaling criminal gangs.

The shooting on Tuesday afternoon was the second in the area in 24 hours and it took place near a preschool. Staff members brought the children indoors as soon as they heard the gunshots.

"We were on location with as many resources we could muster, both at the preschool and for the general public in the area, for whomever needed support or wanted to give us information," Westford said.

According to Swedish Television's reporter, several witnesses said they heard gunshots and saw two people lying on the ground. One died on the spot and another, a man in his 30s, was brought to an emergency ward, which was then cordoned off by police.

Police also urged witnesses to step forward with information, and said an intensive search was underway for the gunmen.
