RABAT, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Moroccan King Mohammed VI on Tuesday congratulated Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on his election as Mexico's new president.
In a congratulatory message to Obrador, the king expressed his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes of success to the new Mexican leader "to achieve the aspirations of the friendly Mexican people for further progress and prosperity."
The king also expressed his determination to work together with the Mexican president to "give new impetus" to the bilateral cooperation, "to serve the supreme interests of the two friendly peoples and contribute to the consolidation of the South-South relations."
In the presidential elections on Sunday, Obrador, candidate of the left-of-center National Regeneration Movement, defeated three rivals by garnering about 53 percent of the vote, according to preliminary results.
