TRIPOLI, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan navy on Tuesday recovered the bodies of six migrants and rescued 125 others off the coast of Garrabulli town, some 55 km east of capital Tripoli.
The Libyan navy said in a statement late Tuesday that a coast guards patrol rescued 125 illegal immigrants on the remains of a drowned rubber boat, and recovered six bodies of migrants near the boat.
The rescue operation took place 8 miles (13 km) off the Garrabulli coast, the statement said, adding that the rescued migrants were taken to Tripoli's immigrants reception center.
The Libyan navy has recently recovered bodies of dozens of immigrants drowned in the sea while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea and reach Europe.
Libya is a preferred point of departure for illegal immigrants due to the state of insecurity and chaos in the country.
The number of the immigrants has increased due to improved weather conditions.
