KATHMANDU, July 6 (Xinhua) -- At least 18 people were killed and 14 injured in a tripper (lorry) accident at remote Damodarkunda Rural Municipality of western Mustang district on Friday noon, Nepal Police said.

Samir Thapa, head constable at the District Police Office of Mustang, told Xinhua on Friday that the tripper carrying 32 workers employed to construct Jomsom-Lomanthang road, plunged 50-meter below the road uncontrollably at around 12:30 p.m. (local time). The workers were returning to work after taking morning meal, according to Police.

"Fifteen workers died on the spot while additional three workers died while waiting medical facility as there is no hospital near the accident site," said Thapa.

According to District Police Office, it is taking time to take the injured workers to the hospital as there is no regular movement of vehicles at the accident site.

By 5 p.m. (local time) only five injured were being taken to the hospital at district headquarters Jomsom, in a vehicle, according to police.

"But, it may take several hours to reach vehicle carrying the injured workers to the destination due to poor road condition," Thapa said.

A helicopter of Dynasty Air had reached the accident site to airlift the injured to the hospitals. "We have also received information that Nepal Army has sent another helicopter to the accident site," said Thapa.
