Pilot of light plane dead while attempting to make emergency landing in central Latvia

RIGA, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The pilot of a light single-seat plane died while attempting to make an emergency landing in the central Latvian district of Bauska last Sunday, local media reported on Monday.

The pilot tried to land his aircraft after discovering technical issues with the engine. The emergency landing, however, was unsuccessful and the plane was severely damaged from the impact.

Emergency staff who arrived at the crash site pulled the dead pilot out of the wreckage.
