YEREVAN, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Mayor of Armenia's capital Yerevan, Taron Margaryan, announced his resignation on the city's official website on Monday.
The resignation came two weeks after a video uploaded to Facebook and shared by thousands showed Margaryan's luxurious mansions and cars, which the 40-year-old mayor could not afford with his modest salary.
Margaryan was one of the last high-ranking officials still in office following mass protests that ousted Armenia's longtime leader Serzh Sargsyan and his Republican Party from power in April.
Armenia has a population of about 2.8 million and more than one million people live in Yerevan.
