WARSAW, July 10 (Xinhua) -- A search for a dangerous, giant snake is being conducted in Konstancin Jeziorna near Warsaw after a Python molurus slough was discovered at the bank of Vistula River.

The fresh slough is almost six-meter long. Animal Rescue Poland Foundation issued a statement warning the local people about the possible presence of a dangerous animal.

As the slough was fresh, experts estimate that the snake might be hungry and aggressive.

While the search continues, new traces of the the reptile were found on Tuesday.

The police and the Animal Rescue Poland Foundation have called on the local people to avoid walking by the river and take a good care of their children and pets before the capture of the giant reptile.

The police are also investigating the local snake owners, as it is possible the reptile has been released from a private breeding. It might have also been smuggled to the country.

Python molurus, or Indian python, is one of the largest nonvenomous python species found mostly in India and Southeast Asia region. It is an excellent swimmer, usually feeding on mammals, birds and reptiles, but might also pose a threat to human's life.
