LUSAKA, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Zambia and the Czech Republic on Tuesday pledged to deepen relations between the two countries.
The two countries have since committed themselves to embarking on practical steps to enhance bilateral relations during the talks held between Zambia's Ambassador to Germany and the Czech Republic Anthony Mukwita and the Czech Republic Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Jancarek.
The Czech Republic official said his country considers Zambia as one of the priority countries in development cooperation in sub-Saharan Africa and wants to enhance ties, according to a statement released by the Zambia Embassy in Germany.
He urged Zambia to consider opening up an embassy in the Czech Republic in order to promote the relations further.
The Zambia envoy said the southern African nation was eager and committed to deepening relations with the Czech Republic and he will take up the issue of opening an embassy in the country with the Zambian authorities.
The Zambian Ambassador said President Edgar Lungu also wanted to see an escalation in economic relations between the two countries.
"We need to re-invigorate our relations as the development potential with escalated economic diplomacy between Zambia and the Czech Republic is immense," he said.
The Czech Republic recently re-opened its embassy in Zambia after it was closed down in the 1990s.
