LONDON, July 12 (Xinhua) -- The British government on Thursday published a long-awaited white paper on Brexit, seeking to create a free trade area with European Union (EU).

The document, entitled The Future Relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union, is expected to set out a comprehensive and ambitious vision for the UK's future relationship with the EU, delivering the right balance between rights and obligations, according to the government.

It will see Britain leave the Single Market, and the Customs Union.

At its core, the white paper is a proposal for a free trade area for goods that ensures continued frictionless access at the border, protects jobs and livelihoods and ensures the UK and EU meet their shared commitments to Northern Ireland and Ireland.

"As part of the plan, the UK will have the flexibility it needs to set its own tariffs for trade with the rest of the world, and lead a global charge to open up services markets across the globe," a government statement said.

Secretary of State of Exiting the European Union, Dominic Raab told the House of Commons that leaving the European Union involves challenge and opportunity and the country needs to rise to the challenge and grasp the opportunities.

"It is a vision that respects the result of the referendum, and delivers a principled and practical Brexit," the newly-appointed minister said.
