LONDON, July 18 (Xinhua) -- A fire alarm are halting arriving and departing planes at London's largest airport as the control tower has been evacuated after fire alarm was activated on the airfield Wednesday.
Images on social media websites showed smoke billowing at the Heathrow airfield.
There has been no report whether there are any casualties or how the fire started.
A spokeswoman for the National Air Traffic Services said: "The control tower has been evacuated in line with normal procedure when there is a fire alarm."
