TEHRAN, July 19 (Xinhua) -- British soccer player Harry Forrester has signed a contract to play for Iran's Tractor Sazi of Tabriz for the upcoming Professional League season.

The 27-year-old Forrester is primarily an attacking midfielder. However, he can be deployed in a number of positions including on the left wing.

He has become the first Englishman to sign for an Iranian club since the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran.

He spent last season at AFC Wimbledon on loan from Rangers.

Next season he will be playing under John Toshack at Tractor Sazi. The 69-year-old Welsh Toshack also joined the Tabriz-based club on a three-year contract with an undisclosed fee in June.

Since 2000, Forrester has played for Watford, Aston Villa, Brentford, Doncaster Rovers and Glasgow Rangers.

On Wednesday, Forrester signed a one-year contract with the Tabriz-based team at undisclosed fee.

Tractor Sazi, as one of the most famous and popular clubs in Iran, concluded Iran's 2016-2017 Pro League Championship in the 10th place.
