YAOUNDE, July 22 (Xinhua) -- An attack by suspected members of the Boko Haram terror group killed 18 people Thursday night in Chad, according to a local source quoted by AFP.

The victims were slaughtered in a village south of the city of Daboua during a night raid of the militant group, said the source.

The attack ended a relative peace from Boko Haram that Chad had enjoyed in recent months.

Boko Haram has been active in the Lake Chad Basin by conducting regular attacks on bordering countries, namely Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger. The relentless response of the Multinational Joint Force (MMF), jointly created by the four affected countries, has largely constrained Boko Haram's activities in its base in Nigeria, though sporadic incursions into neighboring countries were still reported.
