HARARE, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa left for South Africa Thursday to attend the 10th BRICS summit, state news agency New Ziana reported.
BRICS, an acronym for a grouping of the world leading emerging economies namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, holds its rotational leaders' summits annually.
The summit running from July 25-27 is being held under the theme "BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for inclusive growth and shared prosperity in the fourth industrial revolution".
Mnangagwa is among 22 other African leaders that have been invited to attend the summit, which is focusing on strengthening cooperation between BRICS and Africa.
BRICS was established in 2009 to deepen, broaden and intensify relations within the grouping and among the individual countries for more sustainable, equitable and mutually beneficial development.
Zimbabwe enjoys high level political and economic relations with China and South Africa and has cordial relations with the rest of the BRICS members.
Zimbabwe goes to the polls on July 30 to choose a president, parliamentarians and councilors.
Mnangagwa, who has been leading the ruling party's election campaign over the past months, will battle it out with 22 other presidential candidates in the polls which are being held in the presence of Western observers for the first time in 16 years.
