BELGRADE, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Israel and Serbia should further strengthen their good political ties and raise economic cooperation to that same level, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic agreed with visiting Israeli President Reuven Rivlin during their meeting on Thursday.
Vucic said afterwards that Serbia has immense interests to develop further the comprehensive cooperation in all areas with Israel and underlined the Second World War devastations as a shared experience that connects peoples of the two countries.
"We have analyzed our relations and agreed how to form mechanisms of communication, in order to react faster in interests of both countries," he said according to the report of RTS, Serbia's public broadcaster.
He underlined that there is a great number of companies from Israel that do business in Serbia and see it as a good place for their investments, although, according to Vucic, the trade exchange could be much higher.
"We want more companies from Israel, along with better and more successful cooperation between the two countries," Vucic said, singling out tourism as a prosperous area for cooperation.
The two presidents have agreed to form a mixed committee of the two countries for cooperation in order to achieve a safer business environment and raise economic cooperation to the level of the political cooperation.
Vucic thanked Rivlin for Israel's firm decision not to recognize the unilaterally declared independence of Serbian southern province of Kosovo and Metohija, proclaimed in 2008, and assured him that Serbia will support the existence and survival of Israel and nurture friendly ties with its state and people.
Rivlin said that both Serbia and Israel are faced with a problem in protecting their independence, and that he is proud to be the first president of Israel to arrive in Serbia for an official visit.
