Myanmar president urges raising momentum of reform

YANGON, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar President U Win Myint has called for raising momentum of reform in line with the global trend, stressing that the reform needs to be conducted in a timely manner toward building a democratic and federal union, Myanmar News Agency reported Monday.

"Only through the establishment of a democratic federal union can there be peace in the country, can the states and regions develop proportionately and in tandem and can the union develop and exist forever," U Win Myint told officials of the Yangon region government Sunday.

He urged the administrative, legislative and judicial sectors to implement both mental and physical security of the people as well as development, stability and peace of the country in addition to freedom, justice and equality in a democratic system.

He emphasized the need for the administration to support rule of law and do according to law to serve the people, and protect the people and human rights.

He called on the legislature to prepare a bill which must benefit the people and the country in accordance with the country's situation.

As for the judiciary, he focused on the need to be free from bias and corruption, saying that the law is to be enforced under which all are equal whether they are rich, poor, with or without power or authority.
