Morocco's Raja Casablanca edge closer to quarters spot in African Confederation Cup

RABAT, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Morocco's Raja Casablanca maintained their unbeaten run in the CAF Confederation cup, hammering ASEC Mimosas of Cote d'Ivoire 4-0 on Sunday night.

At the Complex Mohammed V in Casablanca, the Moroccan team entered determined to grab the three points and edge closer to a last-eight spot in the African competition. The Moroccan team took an early lead through striker Mahmoud Benhalib in the 17th minute.

The other striker Zakaria Hadraf, capitalized on a misunderstanding between two ASEC Mimosas defenders to add the second goal with 27 minutes played, before scoring his second goal in stoppage time in the first half.

Benhalib converted a penalty at the hour mark to complete the scoring. Earlier in the day, hosts Vita Club of Congo beat Ghana's Aduana Stars 2-0.

After these results, Raja maintained their spot atop Group A with eight points, followed by Vita Club with seven points, Aduana Stars with four points and ASEC Mimosas with three points.

In the next round Raja Casablanca will travel to Congo to face Vita Club, while Aduana Stars will play against ASEC Mimosas to keep their knockout qualification hopes alive.
