NEW DELHI, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Six labourers were killed and two others injured after getting buried under an earth mound in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, officials said Tuesday.
The labourers came under earth mound in Bareilly district, about 265 km north of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.
"Last night eight labourers came under earth mound on Bareilly's Pilibhit Bypass road, while laying an underground optical fiber cable for a telephone line," an official posted in Bareilly district office said.
"Five labourers were killed on spot and of the three others who were pulled out alive, one succumbed in hospital this morning."
Following the accident, police and disaster response force personnel rushed to the spot.
Authorities have registered a case and ordered a probe into the deaths.
