MAPUTO, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi announced on Monday the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the main opposition party Renamo with regard to the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of Renamo armed men.

"The memorandum clearly indicates the root for military issues, the subsequent and decisive steps towards achieving effective and lasting peace," said the president in an address to the nation, adding that "within days we will announce the consequent steps based on the memorandum".

Nyusi appealed for the intelligence and patience of everyone in the process of demilitarization for the construction of a brilliant country, where tolerance and harmony prevail.

"We call on the international community to accompany and support the process of decentralization, disarmament and demilitarization, and especially the reintegration of Renamo armed men, our brothers," said Nyusi.

The following process on demilitarization, demobilization and reintegration of Renamo's remanent armed men is essentially aimed at disarming and withdraw them from the bush to a normal social life.

Some agreements were reached between President Nyusi and Renamo's late leader, Afonso Dhlakama. At the moment, the negotiations take place between the government and Renamo's interim leader, Ossufo Momade.
