ANKARA, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay an official visit to Germany on Sept. 28-29, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported Tuesday.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will greet Erdogan with military honors, the agency reported, citing the spokeswoman of German Presidency.

During his two-day visit, Erdogan will also meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the report added.

The Turkey-Germany relation was strained last year ahead of Turkey's constitutional referendum on April 16, which aimed to transform the country's political system to presidential one. German authorities banned the ruling Justice and Development Party from organizing campaign events there on security grounds.

Moreover, since the failed coup attempt in July 2016, Turkey's large-scale crackdown towards Gulen Movement has drawn criticism from German politicians. Ankara also criticized Berlin for not handing over asylum seekers accused of involvement in the failed coup.

Erdogan made his last official visit to Berlin in February 2014.
