KINSHASA, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary has been nominated by the ruling coalition to replace President Joseph Kabila to compete in the planned presidential elections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), according to government spokesman Lambert Mende.

A former interior minister, Shadary is now the permanent secretary of the People's Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD).

Shadary's nomination as the presidential candidate ends several months of rumors about the future of Kabila, whose second and last term has expired since the end of 2016.

Kabila has previously promised to respect the constitution that forbids him to seek a third term as head of the country. The oppositions have long suspected Kabila of wanting to hold on to power by not organizing the elections.
