KIEV, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine is not considering the possibility of setting limits for grain exports in the current marketing year, which runs between July 1, 2018, and June 30, 2019, a senior government official said on Wednesday.

"The issue of imposing restrictions on grain exports is not being considered," Ukraine's First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Maksym Martynyuk said in a statement published by the "Economichna Pravda" online media outlet.

Earlier this week, local media reported that the Ukrainian government plans to set the limits for milling wheat exports at 8 million tons in the current marketing year due to a lower harvest.

Ukraine is ranked among the world's largest grain exporters, supplying about 8 percent of grain to the global market.

In the previous marketing year, Ukraine exported 39.4 million tons of cereals, including 10.5 million tons of milling wheat.

Last time, the East European country imposed restrictions on grain exports in the 2010-2011 marketing year.
