WARSAW, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- As many as 134,600 Polish farms have suffered from long-lasting drought. This year's heat wave has affected some 2.2 million hectares, the Polish Agriculture Ministry was quoted by the Polish Press Agency (PAP) as saying on Thursday.

According to PAP, Drought-related damages in farming are currently estimated at 1.2 billion (323,600 million U.S. dollars).

The biggest crop loss is being recorded in the Wielkopolskie province in western Poland. Farmers from the Warminsko-Mazurskie, Zachodniopomorskie and Podlaskie provinces were also hard hit by the lack of rain.

The Polish cabinet recently decided to spend 799.5 million PLN (215.63 million dollars) in 2018 on aid for farmers suffering as a result of either drought or floods.

As Europe's scorching heat wave continues to spread across the continent, forecasters are now saying the all-time temperature record in Europe could be broken in the coming days.
