CAIRO, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Egypt condemned on Saturday the recent terrorist blast that killed a police officer western the Jordanian capital Amman, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The blast took place on Friday evening during a cultural festival in Fuheis area in Amman, through an explosive device planted under a vehicle of the security forces, killing an officer and wounding six others, according to the Jordanian Interior Ministry.

"The Egyptian government and people stand in solidarity with the government and people of the Kingdom of Jordan in confrontation of terrorism," said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry's statement.

Egypt has also been facing a wave of terrorism that killed hundreds of policemen, soldiers and civilians over the past few years, with most of the attacks claimed by a Sinai-based group loyal to the Islamic State regional terrorist group.

Egypt stressed that such terrorist activities would not stop Cairo and Amman from fighting terrorism, highlighting the necessity of taking earnest steps to eliminate the sources that provide finance, training and shelter for terrorist groups.
