German citizen indicted for planning motor attack as Islamic State member

BERLIN, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- A German citizen was indicted for being an Islamic State member and for serious state-endangering acts of violence, the Federal Prosecutor General at the Federal Court of Justice announced on Tuesday.

The accused, Dasbar W., 29-year-old, was arrested in December 2017 for allegedly planning an attack at Karlsruhe's Schlossplatz square.

According to the indictment, at the end of July 2016, Dasbar W. joined the Islamic State in Iraq as a member. He was trained to be a sniper and spied on the building of the Prime Minister as a possible attack target.

In mid-July 2017, Dasbar W. returned to Germany with a plan to commit an attack. He planned to use a motor vehicle to commit an attack at Karlsruhe's Schlossplatz square.

For this purpose, he has explored the locations around and endeavored to carry out the attack no later than October 2017.

He had also unsuccessfully applied to delivery companies for a job as a driver before being apprehended.

In addition, he inspired other people with ideology of the extremist organization through the Internet, the indictment said.
